Hassle-free ride to Puncak Alam with opening of new exit at GCE

The Star 10.02.2011 - MOTORISTS who are heading towards Puncak Alam can now heave a sigh of relief with the opening of a new exit (B49) at the Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE) by end of this month.

They no longer have to put up with peak- hour traffic at the toll-free route via Jalan Sungai Buloh or the 6km route via the Bukit Subang interchange at the GCE to get into Puncak Alam.

Concessionaire Prolintas Expressway Sdn Bhd had started the new access road project in December 2009, and it is expected to be completed soon.

The RM40mil project, which is borne by Prolintas, will feature an exit 400m after the Bukit Jelutong toll at the GCE. The 1km-long exit, featuring a motorcycle lane, is not part of the concessionaire’s agreement.

General manager Yang Sapuan Hashim said the company had been receiving many complaints on bad traffic at the toll-free slip road enroute to Puncak Alam for the past three years.

He said the decision to have the new exit was to make travelling easier and convenient for motorists.

“The traffic problem started about three years ago when many residential areas came up around Puncak Alam side. With the population going up, the traffic volume went up too.

“Over the years, the traffic issue in this area has been highlighted in the media, and we have also received many complaints.

“For instance, it takes about 20 to 30 minutes in a traffic jam if one uses the toll-free road via Jalan Sungai Buloh, while those who take the Bukit Subang interchange on the GCE are free from the jam but they still have to drive up 6km to go back to the road leading to Puncak Alam.

“With this new exit, it’s easier to access Puncak Alam. We are expecting about 10,000 users in a day,” he said at a press conference recently.
